The Abbotsford Canucks closed out their season series against the Calgary Wranglers with another big win this weekend.

Ty Young got the nod in net for the second straight game, facing Connor Murphy at the other end. Braden Birnie and Christian Felton slotted into the forward group, while Joe Arntsen lined up alongside Nikolai Knyzhov following Kirill Kudryavtsev’s recall to round out the lineup changes.

The Abbotsford Canucks came out flying, with Riley Patterson leading the charge in the opening frame. Less than four minutes in, Patterson fired a slapshot from the slot off a feed from Arshdeep Bains, finding the back of the net for his first career AHL goal to make it 1-0 early. With the assist, Bains tied Christian Wolanin for the most assists in franchise history with 109.

The two continued to click just minutes later. Bains buried a rebound from Bennett Schimek to double the lead, while Patterson picked up the secondary assist to cap off a strong start. The Canucks controlled the period, limiting the Wranglers to just four shots and carrying a 2-0 lead into the intermission.

The pace slowed in the second period, but Calgary began to push back. Both Young and Murphy were forced into key saves, while the defensive units held strong as neither team found the back of the net in the middle frame.

In the third, the Canucks looked to put things away. Dino Kambeitz extended the lead early, weaving through traffic before going bar down to make it 3-0 Abbotsford.

The Canucks faced their toughest test late in the game, tasked with killing off a four-minute double minor— their first penalty kill of the night. They stood tall, keeping the Wranglers off the board.

With time winding down, Calgary pulled their goaltender for the extra attacker, but Bennett Schimek sealed the win with an empty-net goal.

Ty Young stopped all 24 shots he faced, earning the shutout and leading the Canucks to a 4-0 victory to complete the weekend sweep over the Calgary Wranglers.

The Canucks Shut out the Wranglers in a 4-0 win

The Abbotsford Canucks headed east to take on their rivals, the Calgary Wranglers, in the final meeting of the season series.

Ty Young got the start between the pipes, facing off against Arsenii Sergeev at the other end. Abbotsford rolled with a 12-and-6 lineup, with Jujhar Khaira and Cooper Walker both returning to the lineup after injury.

The first period moved quickly, with very few whistles and no penalties for either side. Calgary struck first, as captain Clark Bishop fired a one-timer from the right circle to give the Wranglers a 1–0 lead heading into the second. Danila Klimovich had one of Abbotsford’s best chances of the frame, nearly tucking in a wraparound, but Sergeev got the pad across just in time to keep it out.

The second period brought a lot more action. Abbotsford found their equalizer early, with Bennett Schimek ripping a shot from the slot off a clean pass to make it 1–1. Calgary responded on the power play, as Bishop picked up his second of the night by jamming home a rebound to restore the lead. The Wranglers extended it to 3–1 shortly after, with Rory Kerins finishing a backdoor feed from Dryden Hunt.

The Canucks kept pushing and cut into the deficit again, as Klimovich buried a chance from the top of the crease to bring Abbotsford within one. However, Calgary answered once more, with David Silye finding space in the slot and making it 4–2 heading into the third.

Abbotsford wasn’t done yet.

Ben Berard made it a one-goal game early in the third, weaving through traffic and roofing a shot top corner on a solo effort. The late push continued, and with under two minutes remaining, Klimovich struck again—this time finishing a backdoor pass from Jimmy Schuldt to tie the game 4–4.

With under a minute to play, Sergeev lost a skate blade, leaving the net exposed. Berard capitalized, sliding the puck into the open cage to give Abbotsford their first lead of the night with just 40 seconds remaining.

The Canucks completed the comeback in dramatic fashion, securing a 5–4 win over the Wranglers. The two teams will meet one final time tomorrow to close out the season series.

The Abbotsford Canucks closed out their home schedule with a hard-fought battle against the Coachella Valley Firebirds.

Ty Young got the nod between the pipes, squaring off against Victor Östman. The Canucks also shuffled their forward lines, while Nikolai Knyzhov slotted in on the blue line to round out the lineup changes.

The opening frame was relatively quiet, with both teams generating a handful of chances but nothing too dangerous. Abbotsford earned the lone power play of the period, but neither side was able to break through, sending the game into the second period scoreless.

Things picked up in the middle frame. Just over six minutes in, Eduard Salé fired a shot on net that nearly crossed the line. With Ty Young out of position, Carson Rehkopf was quick to pounce on the rebound and open the scoring for Coachella Valley.

The Canucks didn’t take long to respond. A few minutes later, Bennett Schimek found himself all alone and beat Östman blocker side to even things up at one. Shortly after, a shot from Nils Åman took an odd bounce and landed right on the stick of Ben Berard in the slot, who made no mistake to give Abbotsford a 2–1 lead heading into the third.

The Firebirds pushed back early in the final frame. J.R. Avon capitalized on a rebound opportunity, slipping the puck under Young’s right pad to tie the game at two. Both teams pressed for a go-ahead goal in regulation, but neither could find the breakthrough.

In overtime, a costly line change by Abbotsford opened the door for Coachella Valley. Tyson Jugnauth took advantage, finding the back of the net to seal the 4–3 overtime win for the Firebirds.

Abbotsford closes out its home slate and will now hit the road to wrap up the regular season.

THE CANUCKS FELL 3-2 IN OT TO THE FIREBIRDS

The 2025/26 Abbotsford Canucks wrapped up their regular season with a strong final win over the Coachella Valley Firebirds.

After finding success in their previous matchup against the Ontario Reign, Abbotsford rolled out an identical lineup, with the lone change coming in net as Ty Young got the start opposite Victor Östman.

The Canucks looked to strike early but ran into penalty trouble, finding themselves shorthanded twice in the opening half of the first period. After returning to even strength, Abbotsford began to build momentum. Around the 12-minute mark, Kirill Kudryavtsev and Danila Klimovich connected on a quick passing play, with Klimovich finishing off a one-timer to open the scoring. The goal marked his 70th, tying Linus Karlsson for the most in franchise history. Ty Young came up with several key saves to preserve the 1-0 lead heading into the second.

Coachella Valley responded quickly in the middle frame. Just 1:45 in, Eduard Sale fired a shot from the blue line through traffic to even the score. Abbotsford answered with sustained pressure in the offensive zone, and midway through the period, Jimmy Schuldt worked the puck toward the net. Dino Kambeitz got a shot off, and Chase Wouters capitalized on the rebound, tucking it home to restore the lead.

The Canucks kept pushing and were rewarded again late in the period. Ben Berard jumped off the bench, took a neutral-zone pass from Cole Clayton, and made a slick move before roofing a shot to extend the lead to 3-1 heading into the third.

Abbotsford added to their lead early in the final frame, as Joe Arntsen blasted a shot from the left circle past Östman to make it 4-1. The Firebirds responded soon after, with Charlie Wright scoring from the blue line to cut the deficit to two.

Despite the late push from Coachella Valley—including a goalie pull in the final minutes—Ty Young stood tall, making several clutch saves to secure the win. The Canucks closed out their regular season on a high note with a 4-2 victory.

The Abbotsford Canucks opened their final weekend of the season with a matchup against the Ontario Reign.
Rolling with an 11-and-7 formation, Jiří Patera got the start in net, facing off against Erik Portillo at the other end. Jack Thompson returned to the blue line, while Austin Brimmer lined up alongside Cooper Walker.

The Canucks came out flying. Ben Berard opened the scoring early, sniping one through traffic from the right circle to give the visitors a 1–0 lead. Patera was sharp in the first period, turning aside breakaway chances and flashing the pads on dangerous rebounds. Just past the midway mark, Bennett Schimek doubled the lead, getting his stick on a Ty Mueller shot to make it 2–0 heading into the second.

The Canucks battled through a handful of penalties in the middle frame, but the defensive group stood tall—blocking shots, disrupting plays, and even generating some offensive pressure. Both goaltenders were stellar, with Patera and Portillo making highlight-reel saves to keep the game tight. Abbotsford carried their 2–0 lead into the third.

The final frame featured plenty of back-and-forth action, though shots were limited. The Reign pushed late, creating a number of dangerous chances, but Patera remained a brick wall. Ontario pulled their goaltender for the extra attacker, but it proved too little, too late. In the dying seconds, Patera sealed the shutout with a game-saving pad stop, backstopping the Canucks to a 2–0 victory.

Abbotsford now heads to Coachella Valley for their final game of the season.

THE CANUCKS SHUT OUT THE PACIFIC DIVISION CHAMPIONS

Abbotsford, BC – The Abbotsford Canucks are proud to announce that Chase Wouters has been named the team’s winner of the IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the Abbotsford community during the 2025.26 season. 

In his fifth season with the Canucks and fourth as captain, Wouters has established himself as a pillar in the community, consistently demonstrating leadership while supporting local charitable initiatives across Abbotsford and the Fraser Valley. 

Throughout the 2025.26 season, Wouters has made a meaningful impact in the Abbotsford community, connecting with and uplifting others through a wide range of initiatives. From touring the Calder Cup to local organizations following the team’s championship and visiting minor hockey practices as a guest coach, to facilitating locker room tours for children facing life-threatening illnesses, Wouters has shown a strong commitment to giving back. 

Wouters also played a key role in organizing the team’s support of families during the holiday season, including personally sponsoring a family and decorating cookies with children at Canuck Place. He further engaged with a wide range of community groups throughout the season, including joining a Special Olympics Abbotsford floorball practice, visiting the MSA Society for Community Living, and speaking with the Abbotsford Police Department Youth Leadership Program about what it means to be a leader. 

Whether through in-person visits, community events, or thoughtful gestures, Wouters has consistently demonstrated leadership, compassion, and a genuine dedication to making a difference off the ice. 

The Abbotsford Canucks are proud to celebrate Wouters’ contributions and his unwavering commitment to making a positive impact in the community. 

Wouters is now one of 32 finalists for the AHL’s 2025.26 Yanick Dupré Memorial Award, honouring the overall IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The winner of the Yanick Dupré Memorial Award will be announced by the American Hockey League at a later date.
