Abbotsford, BC – The Abbotsford Canucks are excited to host Women in Sports Night on March 7th at 7:00pm, when the team takes on the Colorado Eagles at Rogers Forum. The evening will acknowledge the strength and lasting impact of women in sports, in recognition of International Women’s Day on March 8th. 

“Women in Sports Night recognizes the women who are driving progress and shaping the future of the industry,” said Jim Kozak, COO & Alternate Governor, Abbotsford Canucks. “From competition to essential work behind the scenes, each effort strengthens opportunities and inspires young women and future generations to pursue their own path with confidence. Fans are invited to join an evening of conversation, connection, and insight into the many ways women contribute and make an impact across all areas of sports.” 

This special evening will feature a variety of engaging activations and interactive experiences for fans of all ages. Fans are encouraged to stop by Section 101 to participate in a custom beading station and create bracelets featuring messages of encouragement and support for women in sport. At Community Corner located in Section 116, fans can connect with [Care for Women](https://careforwomen.ca/), an organization dedicated to providing practical support to new mothers and creating lasting, positive impacts for families. 

Adding to the night, fan favourite and award-winning country music artist Karen-Lee Batten will open the evening with a powerful rendition of the national anthems, setting the tone for a meaningful and engaging night. 

Madison Samoskevich and 2026 Olympic Silver Medalist Jenn Gardiner from the Vancouver Goldeneyes will participate in a ceremonial puck drop to kick off the game and later lead a panel discussion during the first intermission. During the second intermission, fans will hear from special guests as part of a Women in Business segment, spotlighting the impact of women in the professional world. 

It will be a night that brings together hockey, conversation, and community, offering fans the opportunity to hear from inspiring women in sport and business while recognizing the ongoing impact of women across all areas of the game.

ABBOTSFORD CANUCKS TO HOST WOMEN IN SPORTS NIGHT 

The Abbotsford Canucks closed out their back-to-back with the Calgary Wranglers with another win, sweeping the weekend.

Ty Young got the start in net, taking on Arsenii Sergeev at the other end. Cooper Walker slotted in for Jujhar Khaira as the 11th forward in an otherwise unchanged lineup from Friday afternoon.

The first period got off to a quick start. Just two minutes in, Danila Klimovich ripped a shot from the left circle to score on Abbotsford’s first shot of the night. Neither team found much advantage through the rest of the frame aside from two minutes of four-on-four play, and Klimovich’s goal stood as the lone marker of the period, giving the Canucks a 1–0 lead heading into the second.

The Canucks looked to extend their lead in the middle frame, but struggled to generate shots on net. Just under halfway through the period, Joe Arntsen received a cross-ice feed from Chase Stillman and fired a shot from the right circle to give Abbotsford a 2–0 lead. Young was stellar in net, stopping quality chances, while the defensive core continued to block shots to preserve the two-goal cushion heading into the third.

The Wranglers fought their way back into the game in the final frame. With just over five minutes to play, Aydar Suniev got Calgary on the board, beating Young to bring the home side within one. Just over a minute later, Justin Kirkland capitalized with Young out of position, tying the game at 2 and forcing overtime.

The Canucks took an untimely penalty in overtime but successfully killed it off, sending the game to a shootout once again.

The Abbotsford Canucks headed east to Calgary to take on the Calgary Wranglers for their ninth matchup of the season. Abbotsford has been hot against this team as of late and was looking to keep that streak alive.

Jiří Patera returned to the crease following the Olympic break with the Vancouver Canucks, while Abbotsford rolled with an 11-and-7 formation. At the other end, they faced Arsenii Sergeev.

The first period featured even chances at both ends of the ice, but both goaltenders stood tall. The Wranglers held a slight edge after earning the only power play of the period, but it wasn’t enough to break through, and the game remained scoreless after the opening 20 minutes.

The second period continued the tight battle, with both teams exchanging power-play opportunities. However, neither side could solve the opposing goaltender, and the deadlock remained through 40 minutes of play.

With the final frame underway, Abbotsford finally broke through. Nikolai Knyzhov fired a shot from the blue line that found Ben Berard stationed at the top of the crease. Berard got a stick on the puck and tipped it into the back of the net just 52 seconds into the period to give the Canucks the lead.

The advantage didn’t last long. Just over three minutes later, Sam Morton found a way to beat Patera, tying the game once again.

Abbotsford regained the lead a few minutes later when Lukas Reichel buried a rebound after a setup from Nils Åman to make it 2–1.

The back-and-forth action continued, and the Wranglers responded yet again when Martin Frk found the equalizer just a few minutes later. Despite the late offensive surge from both sides, the game could not be decided in regulation.

During the five-minute 3-on-3 overtime period, both teams traded possession and chances, but neither goaltender blinked, forcing a shootout.

Patera was stellar in the shootout, backstopping Abbotsford to the victory in just two rounds. The teams will meet again Sunday afternoon at 12 PM PT before the Canucks head back home.

Canucks beat Wranglers 3-2 in shootout win 

The Abbotsford Canucks hosted the Colorado Eagles for the final time this season on Women in Sports Night, bouncing back with a big win.

Ty Young got the nod in net, taking on Isak Posch at the other end. The Canucks were still short a full lineup, but Ty Mueller and Cole Clayton returned to help strengthen the group.

The first period went very well for the Canucks. Ty Mueller opened the scoring less than seven minutes in on Abbotsford’s second shot of the night. With traffic in front, Mueller wristed a shot from the right circle that found the back of the net to make it 1-0 Abbotsford during 4-on-4 play.

Just a minute and a half later, Jack Thompson fired a shot from the blue line that was redirected by a Colorado defender and into the back of the net, giving the Canucks an early 2-0 lead. Abbotsford found themselves in some penalty trouble later in the period, but the defensive core and Ty Young stayed sharp, allowing the home team to carry the lead into the second.

The second period slowed down, but both teams were still able to generate some good looks. The goaltenders held strong until Danila Klimovich capitalized late in the frame, burying Ben Berard’s rebound off his body and into the back of the net to make it 3-0 Abbotsford heading into the third.

The Canucks looked to seal the deal in the final 20 minutes. Just 20 seconds in, Abbotsford was awarded a four-minute power play after a high stick, followed shortly by a tripping call that gave them a 5-on-3 advantage early in the period. Ty Mueller capitalized quickly when Danila Klimovich’s shot deflected off Mueller’s skate and into the back of the net, extending the Canucks’ lead to 4-0. Abbotsford still had just over a minute remaining on the two-man advantage but couldn’t add another.

The teams exchanged time in the penalty box through the rest of the period, but Abbotsford’s defense remained locked in. Ty Young was stellar in net, recording his first career AHL shutout with 23 saves, leading the Canucks to a 4-0 victory over the Colorado Eagles.

The team will take a day off before preparing to face Phil Di Giuseppe and the Manitoba Moose on Tuesday and Wednesday.

THE CANUCKS SHUTOUT THE EAGLES IN 4-0 WIN

The Abbotsford Canucks returned home to begin a six-game homestand over the next nine days, taking on the Colorado Eagles and familiar face Tristen Nielsen for the first and only time this season. Abbotsford entered the matchup coming off a sweep in Calgary.

Jiří Patera got the start in net for the Canucks, who were missing a few key players due to the NHL’s trade deadline. Abbotsford was limited to a 9-and-7 formation, with Jack Thompson slotting into the defensive core following his acquisition in the Jett Woo trade yesterday. Kirill Kudryavtsev also returned to the lineup after being sidelined with an injury since January, helping bolster the backend. Every available forward suited up for the Canucks.

Despite the short bench, Abbotsford put up a strong fight against the top team in the division. Patera was the star of the opening twenty minutes, turning aside 16 shots to keep the game within reach. The Eagles were the only team to strike in the period, when Jason Polin beat Patera midway through the frame to give Colorado a 1–0 lead heading into the second.

The middle frame saw the pace pick up. Jack Thompson made an immediate impact in his Abbotsford debut, scoring nine minutes into the period to tie the game at 1–1. Colorado responded quickly, reclaiming the lead just 20 seconds later thanks to Chase Bradley. Luke Toporowski added another six minutes later to extend the Eagles’ lead to 3–1. After limiting Abbotsford to just three shots in the period, Colorado carried that two-goal cushion into the third.

The Eagles continued to press early in the final frame. Ivan Ivan slipped one past Patera just 57 seconds into the period to make it 4–1. The Canucks kept battling and were eventually rewarded when Jack Thompson fired a shot from the blue line that deflected off Ben Berard’s stick in front, cutting the deficit to 4–2.

With a few minutes remaining, Abbotsford pulled Patera for the extra attacker, but Chase Bradley found the empty net to seal a 5–2 victory for Colorado.

The two teams will meet again tomorrow night for their final matchup of the season.

The Canucks fell 5-2 to the Colorado Eagles

Abbotsford Canucks General Manager, Ryan Johnson, announced today that the club has signed defenceman Christian Felton to a one-year AHL contract for the remainder of the 2025-26 season.

Felton, 26, had been competing with the Canucks on a professional try-out agreement earlier this season, which was his second stint with the club, after spending the majority of 2024-25 with Abbotsford. 

Since starting the 2025-26 campaign with the ECHL’s Utah Grizzlies, the 6’1, 185-pound defender has skated in six games with Abbotsford and recently recorded one assist over three ECHL games with the Cincinnati Cyclones before re-joining the Canucks.

The Medina, Ohio native skated in 13 regular season games and was a part of Abbotsford’s Calder Cup Championship roster during his first professional campaign in 2024-25.
