**Abbotsford, BC** – The Abbotsford Canucks are proud to host First Nations Night, presented by Headlands Environmental on February 6th as the team takes on the San Jose Barracuda at 7 pm. This special evening will feature traditional performances, cultural recognitions, and celebrations that honour First Nations heritage. 

"We’re proud to host First Nations Night, a celebration of culture, tradition, and community,” said Jim Kozak, COO & Alternate Governor, Abbotsford Canucks. “This night highlights the rich stories and heritage that make our communities so vibrant. In honour of this special night, Chief Alice McKay of Matsqui First Nation and Chief Dalton Silver of Sumas First Nation will take part in the ceremonial puck drop to open the game, alongside a special traditional welcome song performed by Ronald Modeste and Melissa Epp from Matsqui First Nation. 

Fans can also immerse themselves in First Nations culture throughout the concourse, with Coast Salish art displays, complimentary Bannock samples, and a local Indigenous culture showcase on the South Rise. Fans are also encouraged to stop by Section 101 to engage in a hands-on beading activity!

ABBOTSFORD CANUCKS TO CELEBRATE FIRST NATIONS NIGHT ON FEBRUARY 6TH    

**Abbotsford, BC** – Canucks Sports & Entertainment (CSE) is pleased to announce a five-year extension of its facility agreement with the City of Abbotsford, providing a home for the Abbotsford Canucks through 2031.    

Formerly known as the Abbotsford Entertainment & Sports Centre, the renewed agreement reflects the ongoing partnership between the City of Abbotsford and Canucks Sports & Entertainment with a shared focus on elevating live events while maintaining a strong connection to the community it serves.

CANUCKS SPORTS & ENTERTAINMENT AND THE CITY OF ABBOTSFORD AGREE TO FIVE-YEAR FACILITY EXTENSION AT ROGERS FORUM 

The American Hockey League announced today that forward Ben Berard has been selected to represent the Pacific Division as a member of its 2026 AHL All-Star Roster, presented by BMO. Berard will be Abbotsford’s sole representative at the 2026 AHL All-Star Classic, as defenceman Kirill Kudryavtsev is unable to attend due to injury. Berard is now set to become the fifth player in Abbotsford Canucks history to participate in an AHL All-Star Game and the second player from British Columbia to do so.

Berard, 26, currently leads Abbotsford in points (23) while ranking second in assists (14) and tied for second in goals (nine) while skating in 43 of the club’s 46 regular season games to date.
“Ben took advantage of a great opportunity coming into this season and earned everything he’s gotten,” said Johnson. “This is a terrific acknowledgement for Ben, and we are proud to have him be our representative at the All-Star Classic.”

The Duncan, British Columbia native became a full-time member of the Canucks this season after spending the majority of the 2024-25 season on loan to Abbotsford’s ECHL affiliate Kalamazoo Wings. Berard’s 20 goals last season ranked him tied for the team lead, while he ranked second on Kalamazoo with 40 points over 47 games. He also skated in four games with Abbotsford in 2024-25, scoring a goal in his Canucks debut on Nov. 30 at San Jose, and finishing with two goals over four AHL games played. 

Berard originally joined the organization by signing a one-year AHL contract on July 31, 2024 and brought previous AHL experience having played for the Texas Stars from 2023-2024. He has now amassed 30 points (12 goals, 18 assists) and 25 penalty minutes over 79 AHL regular season games played, as well as seven Calder Cup Playoff games played. Prior to turning professional, he spent three NCAA seasons with Cornell University (ECAC) as well as three full seasons in the BCHL, concluding with being named captain of the Powell River Kings in 2018-19. 

The 2026 AHL All-Star Skills Competition on Tuesday, Feb. 10 (8 ET/7 CT) will pit the All-Stars from the two Eastern Conference divisions against those from the two Western Conference divisions in seven skills events. In the 2026 AHL All-Star Challenge on Wednesday, Feb. 11 (8 ET/7 CT), the four teams will participate in a 3-on-3, round-robin tournament featuring six games of eight minutes each. The two teams with the best records at the end of the round-robin will face off for the championship in a final eight-minute, 3-on-3 game. Coming into this season Abbotsford Canucks’ forward Ben Berard wouldn’t have guessed he’d be heading to the 2026 AHL All-Star Classic. 

He played four games with Abbotsford last year, spending most of the season in the ECHL with the Kalamazoo Wings. Last season, he had two goals in four games with Abbotsford and 40 points (20-20-40) in the ECHL with the Kalamazoo Wings, continuing to chip away at the details of his game. 

“I came into camp just wanting to get a spot on this team here to start the year. That was the first goal, and achieving that was nice, and now, throughout the year, growing my role and being able to contribute to this team, it's been a lot of fun,” Berard said. 

The 26-year-old winger leads Abbotsford with 23 points (9-14-23) on the season through 43 games. He’s been slotted in lines throughout the season and plays with pace and bite to his game. 

Abbotsford Head Coach Manny Malhotra announced Berard’s All-Star selection on Thursday, mentioning how the forward is a “jack-of-all trades” and has made the most of opportunities presented to him. 

“He comes to the rink every day; he grinds, he performs, he contributes. We recognize him, we appreciate him, and the league has also recognized Benny Berard is going to be our All-Star selection in Rockford,” Malhotra said.

Abbotsford Canucks’ Assistant Coach Harry Mahesh is excited to see Berard get the nod for AHL All-Star and is well-deserved for the contributions Berard has made so far this year. 

“To see the progression of a guy who played a handful of games with Abbotsford last season to guy who's leading our team and scoring and is somewhat local and gets to represent a team he grew up watching with the Canucks is really cool,” Mahesh said. “For him, with the ups and downs of the season, he's been really consistent in his production, so it's a good reward for everything he's done for us.” 

Mahesh has a lot of respect for Berard’s work ethic and perseverance, working on his game and taking every opportunity to improve.

The Abbotsford Canucks had one final chance to split their back-to-back with the San Jose Barracuda, hosting them at home this afternoon before the break.

Nikita Tolopilo took the reins in net once again, squaring off against Laurent Brossoit at the other end. Abbotsford rolled out an identical lineup to last night, looking to earn the split.

The game picked up right where it left off. Less than two minutes in, Joe Arntsen dropped the gloves with Brandon Hache, setting the tone for another physical matchup. Tolopilo came up with a pair of big saves early, robbing the Barracuda on a rebound chance, before Jett Woo got into a tilt with Shane Bowers just a few minutes later. Both teams traded power-play opportunities, but it was Danila Klimovich who opened the scoring, firing a shot that hit the post and deflected into the net to give the Canucks a 1–0 lead at the end of the first.

The second period stayed heated. Jett Woo headed to the box, and Dino Kambeitz got into some rough stuff with Egor Afanasyev, carrying over tensions from the night before and sending the teams to four-on-four. With the extra space on the ice, Ty Mueller capitalized, tipping in a point shot from Nikolai Kynzhov to make it 2–0 Canucks. Tolopilo continued to shine, stopping all 22 shots he faced through the first 40 minutes.

Things boiled over again in the third. Barracuda forward Anthony Vincent was assessed a game misconduct for cross-checking Jett Woo, giving Abbotsford a five-minute power play. With five minutes remaining, Patrick Giles took a penalty, handing the Canucks a 5-on-3 for two minutes. Abbotsford applied plenty of pressure, but Brossoit stood tall to keep San Jose within reach.

Once back at even strength, the Barracuda finally broke through, with Igor Chernyshov sneaking one past Tolopilo to pull them within one. The Canucks dug in defensively down the stretch, and Tolopilo made several key saves. With under a minute to go, San Jose pulled their netminder, but Abbotsford’s defence held firm, securing a 2–1 win to split the series.

The Abbotsford Canucks returned home to host their final two games ahead of the All-Star break, taking on the San Jose Barracuda tonight with hopes of using home-ice energy to get back in the win column.

Nikita Tolopilo was back between the pipes for Abbotsford after spending time with the big club, facing Gabriel Carriere at the other end. The Canucks opted for an 11-and-7 formation, with Christian Felton taking a forward spot, while Jonathan Lekkerimäki rejoined his line alongside Arshdeep Bains and Ty Mueller. Victor Mancini also returned to the lineup, with Derek Daschke slotted in as the seventh defenceman.

The first period didn’t have a goal to show for it, but it was an intense one. Gloves were dropped, penalties were called, and big hits were thrown, yet the score remained 0–0 after 20 minutes.

The second period brought much more action. Arshdeep Bains opened the scoring just three minutes in, after Ty Mueller made a strong reach play to keep the puck in the offensive zone before sending a stretch pass to Bains, who finished the play with a backhand into the net to give the Canucks a 1–0 lead. Abbotsford had several quality looks, but the Barracuda struck next, tying the game at one thanks to Jimmy Huntington.

Moments later, Jonathan Lekkerimäki found himself on a breakaway and was tripped on the play, earning a penalty shot. Lekkerimäki got Carriere completely out of position, selling the move before burying the puck into a wide-open net to restore the Canucks’ lead just 30 seconds later. The pressure continued, but an unlucky bounce off the leg of a linesman put the puck back onto a Barracuda stick, where it was fired over Tolopilo’s right shoulder to tie the game at two heading into the final frame.

The back-and-forth scoring continued to start the third. Abbotsford pulled ahead five minutes in when Victor Mancini sent a seeing-eye shot from the blue line through traffic and into the back of the net to make it 3–2 for the home side. San Jose answered once again a few minutes later, as Egor Afanasyev found the equalizer.

The Barracuda offense exploded in the final 10 minutes. Afanasyev buried his second of the night when an unlucky bounce slipped behind Tolopilo and into the net, giving San Jose their first lead of the game. Nolan Allan added to the tally just a minute and a half later, ripping a shot past Tolopilo to make it 5–3.

With Tolopilo pulled for the extra attacker, the Barracuda added an empty-net goal to extend the lead to 6–3. Anthony Vincent squeezed one more past the Canucks netminder to make it 7–3, as Abbotsford ultimately fell on home ice.

The two teams will meet again tomorrow night for their final game before the All-Star break.
