The Abbotsford Canucks bounced back in a big way after last night’s heartbreaking finish, taking on the Calgary Wranglers once again at Rogers Forum to close out their back-to-back series.

Nikita Tolopilo returned to the crease for Abbotsford, squaring off against Owen Say at the other end. On the blue line, Elias Pettersson made his return to the lineup beside Victor Mancini, while Nick Poisson slotted in alongside Chase Wouters and Arnaud Durandeau.

The first period was a steady feeling-out process, with both sides trading looks but neither taking control. Calgary broke the ice late, as Justin Kirkland went blocker side to make it 1–0 with four minutes left in the frame—the lone goal of the opening period.

Abbotsford looked to spark something in the second but struggled early to generate dangerous chances. Tolopilo stood tall, turning aside several key opportunities to keep the deficit at one. The Canucks earned the game’s first power play late in the period, but the advantage carried into the third with the score still 1–0.

The third period was all Abbotsford. Starting on the man advantage, they continued to shoot on Say but couldn’t solve him—at least not right away. With under two minutes remaining, the Canucks pulled Tolopilo for the extra attacker, and an untimely Calgary penalty created a huge 6-on-4 opportunity. Danila Klimovich took full advantage, drifting into the slot and ripping home the equalizer with just 51 seconds left to force overtime.

Abbotsford controlled most of the extra frame, but neither team could seal it, sending the game to a shootout.

Klimovich’s 4th round goal sealed the deal, and the Abbotsford Canucks completed the comeback with a 2–1 shootout victory over the Calgary Wranglers!

On this special night, the team will take the ice wearing jerseys featuring special 5th anniversary patches, and everyone through the doors will receive a commemorative 5th anniversary game poster. The Abbotsford Canucks returned home to the newly renamed Rogers Forum to take on the Calgary Wranglers, riding the momentum of a big win in Tucson and another strong performance in their last game on home ice.

Ty Young got the start for Abbotsford, facing off against Ivan Prosvetov at the other end. The only lineup change came with Jackson Kunz slotting in for Josh Bloom.

The opening frame was a quiet one, with each team generating a few quality looks but nothing that would break the deadlock. The most notable moment came late in the period when Jujhar Khaira dropped the gloves with Lucas Ciona, earning both players five minutes in the box. The game remained scoreless heading into the second.

The Canucks came out flying in the middle frame, firing 18 shots on goal while holding Calgary to just five. After a strong penalty kill, Abbotsford found themselves on a 5-on-3. Although the first Wranglers penalty expired, Mackenzie MacEachern ripped home a shot from the slot off a feed from Chase Wouters. The assist marked Wouters’ 100th career AHL point, and the Canucks carried a 1–0 lead into the third.

Calgary pushed back early in the final frame. Just five minutes in, Clark Bishop snuck a shot through Young’s pads to tie the game 1–1. Abbotsford kept battling, and their efforts paid off when Vilmer Alriksson buried a rebound in front to restore the lead. But the Wranglers weren’t done. Justin Kirkland tied the game with under five minutes to go, and Carter King delivered the game winner with a goal at 19:30. Despite a late push, the Canucks couldn’t find the equalizer and ultimately fell 3–2 to the Wranglers.

The Abbotsford Canucks took on the Coachella Valley Firebirds on their 5th Anniversary Night.

Aku Koskenvuo got the start between the pipes for Abbotsford this afternoon, facing Victor Ostman at the other end. The Canucks shook up their lines a bit, with Josh Bloom and Anri Ravinskis drawing into the forward group, and Phip Waugh slotted alongside Joe Arntsen on the blue line.

Looking for a stronger showing on the shot clock, the Canucks controlled much of the early play. Their momentum dipped briefly after needing to kill off an early penalty, but they came out unscathed and picked things right back up. Late in the first, Joe Arntsen and John Hayden dropped the gloves to spark their benches, but the score remained 0–0 after twenty minutes.

The second period saw more action, and it was Abbotsford who broke the ice. Just three minutes in, Nils Åman fired a shot from the left circle, and Ben Berard managed to get a piece of it to give the Canucks a 1–0 lead. A few minutes later, though, Abbotsford ran into trouble on the power play when J.R. Avon buried a shorthanded chance to tie the game at 1–1. The Canucks had to fight off two more penalties as the period went on, but things stayed even heading into the third.

Both teams pushed for the go-ahead goal in the final frame. With no penalties called, it stayed even strength throughout, and both goaltenders turned aside quality chances at both ends. With four minutes remaining, the Firebirds finally broke through when Ben Meyers snapped a shot from the slot to take a 2–1 lead. Abbotsford pulled the goalie with two minutes left, and a last-second Firebirds penalty provided a glimmer of hope, but the Canucks couldn’t convert before the buzzer.

The Abbotsford Canucks hosted their 5th annual Teddy Bear Toss game, welcoming the Coachella Valley Firebirds to Rogers Forum.

Jiří Patera made his return to the crease after another stint with Vancouver, taking on Nikke Kokko at the other end. The Canucks rolled out a near-identical lineup to Wednesday’s game, with Joe Arntsen being the lone new face to slot back in.

In the first period, the energy was sky-high as fans waited for the signal to send their bears flying. Coachella Valley came out firing, heavily outshooting Abbotsford early and earning the game’s first power play. The Canucks stood tall defensively, and Patera delivered a spectacular save to keep the game scoreless.

After killing off the penalty, Abbotsford earned a power play of their own—one that didn’t take long to convert. Jackson Kunz fed a perfect pass from behind the net to Nils Åman, who buried it with one quick release to unleash the annual teddy bear storm. Rogers Forum erupted as Åman added his name to Abbotsford’s Teddy Bear Toss history.

Once play resumed, the Firebirds went back to the man advantage, and this time Jagger Firkus struck to tie the game. But the tie was short-lived—just 14 seconds later, Jimmy Schuldt regained the lead when his shot deflected off a Firebirds skate and in, sending Abbotsford to the intermission up 2–1.

The middle frame was filled with penalty calls, but despite the Firebirds continuing to control the shot clock, it was Abbotsford who struck again. Three minutes in, Mackenzie MacEachern broke in on a partial breakaway and snapped home the 3–1 goal. Both goaltenders stood tall through the parade to the penalty box, and the Canucks carried their two-goal lead into the third.

Looking to lock down the win, Abbotsford faced pushback early when Tyson Jugnauth’s point shot took a fortunate bounce and found its way across the line, cutting the lead to one. Coachella Valley kept pressing, but Patera delivered crucial saves. With just under two minutes left, Kokko headed to the bench for an extra attacker—and the Firebirds capitalized. Lleyton Roed fired one home from the slot with 1:30 remaining to tie the game and force overtime.

Both goaltenders continued to shine through the extra five minutes, sending the game to a shootout.

The Canucks fell 4–3 in the shootout but earned a point on Teddy Bear Toss night. They’ll get another shot at the Firebirds tomorrow evening.

Fans are encouraged to bring new or gently used teddy bears to the game and join the tradition of tossing their teddies onto the ice after Abbotsford scores their first goal.

A total of $10,000 will be donated to Toys for Tots, $15,000 to Canuck Place, and $10,000 to Archway Food Bank, helping spread holiday cheer and make the season brighter for the community.
