The Abbotsford Canucks returned to Rogers Arena for the first time in 2026, welcoming the Bakersfield Condors for their first matchup of the season.

Nikita Tolopilo got the start in goal for Abbotsford, backstopping a very different-looking Canucks lineup. The only change on the blue line saw Nikolai Kynzhov slot in for Sawyer Mynio. Up front, the Canucks were forced to dress just 11 forwards, as multiple players were unavailable for the contest.

The Condors wasted no time opening the scoring, striking just 41 seconds into the game. Quinn Hutson notched his 20th goal of the season to give Bakersfield the early lead. Abbotsford pushed back, generating several quality chances and even ringing shots off the post, but it was Bakersfield who struck again. Hutson blasted a one-timer from the slot to give the Condors a 2–0 lead heading into the second period.

Looking to respond, the Canucks continued to outshoot the Condors in the middle frame, and their persistence finally paid off late in the period. Captain Chase Wouters carried the puck into the Bakersfield zone and squeaked it through the legs of Matt Tomkins to get Abbotsford on the board. A late penalty proved costly, however, as Damian Carfagna converted on the power play, restoring the Condors’ two-goal lead and sending Bakersfield into the third up 3–1.

Bakersfield made it even tougher for the Canucks to mount a comeback early in the final frame. Seth Griffith scored his first of the night just five and a half minutes in to extend the lead to 4–1. Abbotsford responded on the power play shortly after, as Wouters tipped Kirill Kudryavtsev’s point shot past Tomkins to cut the deficit to two. The momentum was short-lived, though, as Griffith struck again just 10 seconds later to make it 5–2.

The Canucks continued to battle, earning another late power play where Cooper Walker pounced on a loose puck in front to make it a 5–3 game. Despite the push, time ran out on Abbotsford’s comeback attempt, and they ultimately fell 5–3 to the Condors.

The two teams will rematch tomorrow night at Rogers Arena for Hockey Talks Night.

The Abbotsford Canucks kicked off the new year with a rematch against the Manitoba Moose. Jiří Patera got the start in the crease for Abbotsford, facing Thomas Milic at the other end. Josh Bloom slotted in on the left wing alongside Ty Mueller to round out the lineup changes. 

The Canucks were off to a rocky start, killing off two penalties back-to-back within the opening five minutes. Although they escaped unscathed on the penalty kill, Manitoba broke through at even strength just six-and-a-half minutes in. Mason Shaw got his stick on a point shot, deflecting it past Patera to give the Moose a 1–0 lead. Manitoba continued to generate pressure, outshooting Abbotsford and holding them to just six shots in the frame. Before the period came to a close, Parker Ford buried a breakaway chance, sending the Moose into the intermission with a 2–0 advantage.

Abbotsford looked to turn things around in the middle frame. Both teams had opportunities on the power play, along with some 4-on-4 action, but the goaltenders stood tall. Anri Ravinskis was the lone skater to break through, scoring on a wraparound to notch his first career AHL goal—on his birthday. The Canucks pulled within one, heading into the third period trailing 2–1.

The comeback bid stalled in the final frame. David Gustafsson restored Manitoba’s two-goal lead after finishing a cross-ice feed from Walker Duehr. Abbotsford generated some quality looks, but Milic was sharp and turned aside every chance. With time winding down, the Canucks pulled Patera for the extra attacker, but Phil Di Giuseppe sealed the game with an empty-net goal, making it 4–1.

The Canucks fell to the Moose in the final game of their road trip and will now return home to take on the Calgary Wranglers next weekend.

The Abbotsford Canucks flew east to Winnipeg, Manitoba, where they took on the Manitoba Moose in a New Year’s Eve afternoon showdown. Looking to get back into the win column and close out 2025 on a high note, Abbotsford delivered a strong response.

Nikita Tolopilo got the start in the blue paint for the Canucks, squaring off against Domenic DiVincentiis at the other end. Abbotsford shuffled their lines slightly, with the most notable changes seeing Danila Klimovich and Anri Ravinskis slot back into the lineup. On the blue line, Kirill Kudryavtsev and Sawyer Mynio switched sides in an effort to strengthen the defensive core.

Both teams spent prolonged stretches in the offensive zone early on but struggled to generate quality shots. Manitoba struck first when Danny Zhilkin broke free on a partial breakaway and slid the puck through the legs of Tolopilo, where it slowly trickled over the goal line. Abbotsford pushed back and found their equalizer on a 4-on-3 power play late in the period. Arshdeep Bains spotted Klimovich wide open in the slot, and the winger made no mistake, snapping the puck over the left pad of DiVincentiis to tie the game at one.
The Moose finished the period with 30 seconds of power-play time, and a penalty at the buzzer put Abbotsford in a tough spot to start the second, facing a minute and a half of 5-on-3 action. The Canucks rose to the challenge, with Tolopilo standing tall and the penalty killers clearing lanes to escape unscathed.

Moments after returning to even strength, Abbotsford capitalized on a Manitoba line change. Bains and Reichel burst up ice with no Moose defenders in sight, and Reichel buried his first goal as an Abby Canuck just three minutes into the frame to give Abbotsford their first lead of the night. Less than two minutes later, Ty Mueller cashed in from the slot to make it 3–1, as momentum swung firmly in the Canucks’ favour.

Manitoba responded on a delayed penalty, pulling within one when Elias Salomonsson scored on the 6-on-5. The Canucks weren’t done yet, though. With under two minutes remaining in the period, Mueller threaded a clean pass to Bains, who hammered a one-timer through the right side to restore the two-goal cushion at 4–2.

The final 20 minutes slowed down as Abbotsford focused on protecting their lead. Much of the period was spent on special teams, with both clubs exchanging power-play opportunities, but the Canucks’ penalty kill was sharp all afternoon. As time wound down, the Moose pulled their goalie in a last-ditch effort, but Bains sealed the deal with his second of the game, finding the empty net to secure a 5–2 victory.

Abbotsford closed out 2025 in the win column and will look to carry that momentum forward when they face the Moose once again to open 2026.

The Abbotsford Canucks completed their weekend sweep with a quick turnaround in a back-to-back matchup against the Calgary Wranglers.

Jiří Patera earned back-to-back starts in goal for the Canucks, once again facing Arsenii Sergeev at the other end. Zack Okabe and Jackson Kunz drew back into the forward group, while Derek Daschke slotted in on the blue line.

The Canucks got off to another fast start, as Nick Poisson and Zack Okabe found themselves on an early 2-on-0. Poisson finished the play to open the scoring for the second game in a row, giving Abbotsford a 1–0 lead just 58 seconds in. The Canucks went to the power play shortly after and generated quality chances but were unable to extend the lead.

Calgary found the equalizer just over halfway through the opening frame, as Sam Morton made it 1–1. Abbotsford continued to press, and their effort paid off late in the period when a net-front battle saw Ty Mueller jam one home, sending the Canucks into the second with a 2–1 lead.

The Wranglers responded quickly in the second period. Just four-and-a-half minutes in, Dryden Hunt redirected a shot from Matvei Gridin on the backdoor to tie the game at two. Abbotsford had opportunities on the man advantage, but both goaltenders stood tall, and the game remained deadlocked heading into the final frame.

Looking to avoid extra time for the second straight night, the Canucks turned up the pressure in the third, generating several quality scoring chances, but Sergeev continued to deny them. Just past the 12-minute mark, Anri Ravinskis broke through, scoring his first goal on home ice with a shot from the right circle to give Abbotsford the lead. Derek Daschke picked up his first career AHL point with an assist on Ravinskis’ eventual game-winner.

Calgary pushed back late, pulling their goaltender for the extra attacker, but Abbotsford held firm as time expired, securing a 3–2 regulation win and completing the weekend sweep over the Wranglers.

The Abbotsford Canucks welcomed the Calgary Wranglers on Flaunt Your Flannel Night, skating away with a gritty win in front of the home crowd.

Jiří Patera got the start in goal for Abbotsford, opposite Owen Say for Calgary. Jonathan Lekkerimäki and Ben Bérard returned to the lineup, providing an immediate offensive boost, while the Canucks otherwise rolled out a nearly identical roster.

The game got off to a quick start as Lekkerimäki marked his return just 18 seconds in, backhanding the puck past Say to give Abbotsford the early lead. Momentum slowed shortly after when the Canucks were sent to the penalty kill for two minutes. Although they escaped unscathed, the Wranglers carried the play and heavily outshot Abbotsford for the remainder of the period. Despite the pressure, the Canucks headed into the first intermission up 1–0.

The second period delivered plenty of action in a short span. Cooper Walker doubled the Canucks’ lead three and a half minutes in, burying his own rebound. Calgary responded just over a minute later, as Sam Morton ripped a one-timer from the slot to cut the deficit to one. A few minutes after that, Dryden Hunt capitalized on a misplay, scoring with Patera down to tie the game at 2–2. Arsenii Sergeev went in net for the Wranglers. 

Calgary grabbed the lead early in the third when Carter King finished a backdoor feed from David Silye to make it 3–2 Wranglers. Abbotsford answered back quickly, however, as Nils Åman deflected a Jonathan Lekkerimäki point shot past Sergeev, tying the game at 3 with nine minutes remaining.

Both teams pushed for the go-ahead goal down the stretch, but even with a Canucks power play in the final minute and a half of regulation, neither side could find the winner, sending the game to overtime.

Abbotsford began the extra frame with a 30-second man advantage and came close on several looks, but the game ultimately required a shootout.

The Abbotsford Canucks wrapped up a back-to-back set against the Bakersfield Condors tonight, looking to bounce back after falling short the night before.

Jiří Patera got the start for Abbotsford, squaring off against Connor Ungar at the other end. Phip Waugh returned to the blue line, while Nils Åman and Lukas Reichel rejoined the lineup after missing last night’s contest. Forward Zach Okabe made his Abbotsford Canucks debut, skating alongside Nick Poisson and Jackson Kunz. It was also a milestone night for Chase Wouters, who played his 300th career game — all with Abbotsford.

The first period proved to be a tough one for the home side. Just two and a half minutes in, Beau Akey opened the scoring after sneaking into the slot and burying a rebound. A few minutes later, Josh Samanski doubled the lead, beating Patera over the shoulder to make it 2–0. Joe Arntsen dropped the gloves with Connor Clattenburg in an attempt to spark the Canucks, but following a costly penalty to Victor Mancini, Quinn Hutson capitalized on the power play to give Bakersfield a 3–0 lead heading into the intermission.

The Canucks showed more jump in the second period and earned their first two power plays of the night. The second opportunity paid off, as Wouters made it count at the 14-minute mark, lifting a perfectly placed shot into the top corner after taking a feed from Åman to put Abbotsford on the board. Both goaltenders stood tall the rest of the frame, sending the Canucks into the third trailing 3–1.

The final period featured plenty of battle and scoring chances at both ends, but neither side could break through as the goaltenders remained sharp. With just over four minutes remaining, Abbotsford pulled Patera for the extra attacker in search of a late comeback. Bakersfield found space down ice and hit the empty net to seal a 4–1 victory.

The Canucks now have two days to regroup before welcoming the Calgary Wranglers this weekend for Flaunt Your Flannel Night and Mystery Puck Night.
