Abbotsford Canucks General Manager, Ryan Johnson, announced today that the club has signed defenceman Christian Felton to a professional try-out agreement.

Felton, 25, returns to the Canucks for a second stint, after spending the majority of his first professional season with Abbotsford in 2024-25, skating in 13 regular season games and being a part of the club’s Calder Cup Championship roster. He also spent seven games with the Canucks’ ECHL affiliate Kalamazoo Wings, recording one assist.

The 6’1, 185-pound defender started the 2025-26 campaign with the ECHL’s Utah Grizzlies, registering nine points (three goals, six assists) and 15 penalty minutes over 30 games played.
The Medina, Ohio native originally joined the organization when he signed a one-year entry-level NHL contract with the Vancouver Canucks on March 14, 2024. Prior to turning professional, Felton spent four seasons in the NCAA between Bentley University (AHA) and Merrimack College (Hockey East), recording a total of 17 points (seven goals, 10 assists) and 44 penalty minutes over 98 collegiate games.

In a corresponding move, Ryan Johnson also announced that the Abbotsford Canucks have released defenceman Phip Waugh from his professional try-out agreement.

ABBOTSFORD CANUCKS SIGN FELTON TO PTO

The American Hockey League announced today that Abbotsford Canucks defenceman Kirill Kudryavtsev has been selected to represent the Pacific Division as a member of its 2026 AHL All-Star Classic roster, presented by BMO. Kudryavtsev is set to become the fourth player and second defenceman in franchise history to participate in an AHL All-Star game.

Kudryavtsev, 21, currently ranks tied for third on the team in points (13) this season while leading Canucks defencemen with 12 assists. The second-year pro has recorded 39 points (six goals, 33 assists) in his first 93 AHL regular season games, while leading Canucks defencemen in games played since joining the team in the 2024-25 campaign.

The Yaroslavl, Russia native had an impressive rookie season in 2024-25, leading Abbotsford in plus-minus rating in both the regular season (+18) and playoffs (+18) on the way to helping the club capture its first ever Calder Cup Championship. Kudryavtsev also skated in two regular season games with the Vancouver Canucks, making his NHL debut at home against the San Jose Sharks on April 14, 2025. A former seventh-round pick (208th overall) for Vancouver in 2022, he became the seventh player to make his NHL debut with the Vancouver Canucks after recall from Abbotsford.

“Kirill hit the ground running last year and his development came along quicker than anticipated,” said Abbotsford Canucks General Manager Ryan Johnson. “He is a complete professional and he is extremely coachable. It is not a surprise to anyone in our organization that he is being recognized with an All-Star selection.”

Prior to joining Abbotsford, Kudryavtsev spent three seasons with the Ontario Hockey League’s Soo Greyhounds, where he had current Abbotsford Canucks assistant coach Jordan Smith as an associate coach during his first year of junior hockey in 2021-22. He also captured a Hlinka-Gretzky Cup Gold Medal in 2022 while representing Russia in the coveted U-18 international tournament.

The **2026 AHL All-Star Skills Competition** on Tuesday, Feb. 10 (8 ET/7 CT) will pit the All-Stars from the two Eastern Conference divisions against those from the two Western Conference divisions in seven skills events. In the **2026 AHL All-Star Challenge** on Wednesday, Feb. 11 (8 ET/7 CT), the four teams will participate in a 3-on-3, round-robin tournament featuring six games of eight minutes each. The two teams with the best records at the end of the round-robin will face off for the championship in a final eight-minute, 3-on-3 game.

The Abbotsford Canucks were hot off the heels of a weekend home sweep against the Calgary Wranglers and looked to keep the momentum rolling against the San Diego Gulls tonight.

Jiří Patera made his third consecutive start in the crease, backstopping a newly reinforced Canucks lineup. Elias Pettersson slotted back into the Abbotsford lineup for just his second game of the season, bolstering the blue line. Up front, Jujhar Khaira and Danila Klimovich also returned to the lineup, adding some much-needed offensive strength.

The first period was relatively quiet, with both teams trading a few chances. Abbotsford’s best look came when Nils Åman found himself on a partial breakaway, slipping the puck through the legs of Calle Clang, only for it to stop just short of the goal line. The Canucks had an early power play but were unable to capitalize. Late in the frame, the Gulls earned their first man advantage, and Sam Colangelo made it count, firing one home with just over a minute remaining to give San Diego a 1–0 lead heading into the intermission.

The pace picked up in the second period. About six minutes in, Jujhar Khaira fired a shot from below the goal line that deflected off a Gulls defender and into the net, tying the game at 1. The deadlock was short-lived, however, as just two minutes later Yidor Sidorov tipped home a point shot from Tristan Luneau to restore San Diego’s lead. The Gulls continued to heavily outshoot Abbotsford, but Patera stood tall, keeping the Canucks within one heading into the final frame.

The third period saw the game erupt. Abbotsford struck twice early, starting on the power play—this time making it count. Just nine seconds into the advantage, Ben Berard stickhandled through the slot and snapped a clean shot past Clang, tying the game 3:30 into the period. One minute later, Danila Klimovich and Chase Wouters broke down the wing, with the captain finishing the play to give Abbotsford their first lead of the night.

The Gulls answered back around the 11-minute mark, when Roland McKeown found the back door to knot the game at 3 and reintroduce some adversity for the Canucks. Abbotsford continued to push and was rewarded late, as Khaira tipped home Jett Woo’s wide shot to put the Canucks back in front 4–3 with just five minutes remaining.

San Diego pulled Clang for the extra attacker in the final moments, but Lukas Reichel sealed the deal with an empty-net goal, securing a big 5–3 victory for Abbotsford.

The two teams will rematch on Friday, with the Canucks looking to extend their streak to four straight wins.

The Abbotsford Canucks returned home to open a four-game homestand, kicking things off with a big matchup against the Laval Rocket.

Nikita Tolopilo was back between the pipes for Abbotsford following his stint with Vancouver, taking on Jacob Fowler at the other end. Victor Mancini rejoined the lineup on the blue line alongside Jimmy Schuldt, while Cole Clayton made his Abbotsford debut after being acquired in yesterday’s trade with the Barracuda.

The first period was a hard-hitting affair, with both teams looking to snap recent scoring struggles. Early penalties on both sides created some chances, but it was Laval who struck first. Around 13-and-a-half minutes in, Dino Kambeitz was sent to the box, and Laurent Dauphin capitalized on the power play to give the Rocket a 1–0 lead heading into the middle frame.

The second period was action-packed. Abbotsford earned another opportunity on the power play, and this time Chase Wouters made it count, burying a rebound just over five minutes in to tie the game at one. Only about ten seconds later, Tyler Thorpe and Joe Arntsen dropped the gloves, earning five-minute fighting majors apiece.

Around the midway point of the period, Dauphin was awarded a penalty shot, but Tolopilo stood tall to keep the game even. Laval regained the lead shortly after, as Sean Farrell finished a backdoor feed from Dauphin. The Canucks responded once again on the power play, with Danila Klimovich ripping a one-timer from the top of the left circle to tie the game at two by the end of the period.

The back-and-forth continued in the third. Farrell scored his second of the night, getting behind the defence and ensuring the puck crossed the line to restore Laval’s lead. Abbotsford answered yet again on the man advantage, as Lukas Reichel drove the net and slipped a pass across to Jonathan Lekkerimäki, who buried the feed to make it 3–3.

With overtime looming, Laval caught a fortunate break when Florian Xhekaj intercepted a backhanded pass in front of the net and scored the game-winner with just 13 seconds remaining.

The Canucks ultimately fell 4–3 to the Laval Rocket but will look to bounce back tomorrow night on Hockey Is For Everyone Night.

The Canucks closed out their Southern California road trip with a matchup against the Coachella Valley Firebirds. Aku Koskenvuo was back between the pipes following his recall from the Kalamazoo Wings, taking on Kevin LaFontaine at the other end. Christian Felton also made his Canucks debut, skating in his first game with the club this season after recently signing.

It wasn’t the start the Canucks were hoping for, as penalties proved costly early. Just over four minutes into the game, a high-sticking call to Jonathan Lekkerimäki gave the Firebirds their first power play, and they capitalized when John Hayden crashed the net and poked the puck past Koskenvuo. Coachella Valley carried the momentum for much of the opening frame and struck again late in the period. Making quick work of another power play, Logan Morrison snapped a shot from the slot to give the Firebirds a 2–0 lead heading into the second.

The middle frame was quieter, with no scoring at either end. There was some physical play, a power-play opportunity for the Canucks, and chances traded both ways, but strong goaltending from Koskenvuo and LaFontaine kept the score unchanged at 2–0 entering the third.

Coachella Valley extended their lead early in the final frame when Logan Morrison scored his second of the night, jamming a loose puck into the back of the net. The Canucks pushed to get back into the game but couldn’t find a way past LaFontaine before time ran out.

The Canucks fell 3–0 to the Firebirds and will now head home to host the Laval Rocket on Tuesday and Wednesday night.

The Abbotsford Canucks returned to Pechanga Arena for the final time this season, closing out their road series against the San Diego Gulls.

Jiří Patera backstopped the Canucks for his fourth consecutive start, once again squaring off against Calle Clang. Jonathan Lekkerimäki rejoined the lineup and slotted onto the top line alongside Lukas Reichel and Nils Åman. Dino Kambeitz also drew back in up front next to Chase Wouters and Danila Klimovich, while Derek Daschke helped anchor the blue line.

There wasn’t much action in the opening frame. Each team earned a power play and generated some quality looks at five-on-five, but strong defensive play on both sides kept the game scoreless heading into the second period.

The middle twenty followed a similar pace. The Gulls finally broke the deadlock just over two minutes into the period when Sasha Pastujov wired a shot from the left circle to give San Diego a 1–0 lead. The teams traded power-play opportunities, and Chase Wouters dropped the gloves with Nikolas Brouillard to inject some energy into the contest. Still, both goaltenders held firm, and the Canucks entered the third period trailing by one.

Looking to mount a comeback in the final frame, Abbotsford pushed but struggled to generate sustained offense. With late penalties to both sides, the Canucks pulled Patera for the extra attacker with just over a minute remaining, but the rally came up short as the Gulls held on for a 1–0 victory.

The Canucks will now travel to Palm Springs to take on the Coachella Valley Firebirds on Sunday, wrapping up their Southern California road trip.
