Looking to make their mark on opening weekend and take home all four points, the Canucks iced a similar lineup with just a few key changes. Ben Berard joined Vitali Kravtsov and Max Sasson on the top line after scoring in last night’s season opener. Josh Bloom also drew into his first game of the year alongside Joseph Labate and Dino Kambeitz.

Abbotsford rolled with the same defensive pairings as the previous night, but the biggest change came in goal as Jiří Patera made his first start in over 11 months. Jesper Vikman got the nod for the Silver Knights.

The Canucks controlled the puck for most of the opening frame, registering nearly triple the shots of Henderson. However, with just under two minutes remaining, Tuomas Uronen capitalized on a rebound to put the Silver Knights ahead 1–0. Despite the strong pressure, Abbotsford headed into the first intermission down by one.

The second period brought much more action. As both teams began to find their rhythm, Henderson doubled their lead when Raphael Lavoie converted on a turnover for his team’s second of the night. The Canucks were quick to respond, though—just 24 seconds later, Danila Klimovich and Joseph Labate broke out on a two-on-one. Klimovich fed Labate cross-ice, and he buried it to cut the deficit in half. Abbotsford kept pressing, and their efforts paid off when Max Sasson slipped the puck through Vikman’s legs to even the score at two.

Riding that momentum, the Canucks added three unanswered goals. Mackenzie MacEachern intercepted a pass and tucked one through Vikman’s pads to give Abbotsford their first lead of the game at 3–2. Patera stood tall the rest of the way, making several key stops to preserve the advantage. With time winding down, Nils Åman extended the lead on the power play, ripping a shot from the left circle to make it 4–2.

Henderson pulled their netminder in the dying moments, but it was too little, too late. The Canucks held on for a 4–2 victory—securing all four points on opening weekend.

Next up, Abbotsford heads to Laval to face the Rocket before returning home to raise their well-earned championship banner at their Home Opener on October 24th.

Abbotsford Canucks hockey is back in full swing as the reigning Calder Cup champions kicked off their fifth season Friday night against the Henderson Silver Knights in Nevada.

With just a third of last year’s roster returning, the opening lineup featured several fresh faces. Up front, Max Sasson centered Nils Åman and Vitali Kravtsov, followed by a second line of Mackenzie MacEachern, Ty Mueller, and Danila Klimovich. Rookie Vilmer Alriksson joined Joseph Labate and Dino Kambeitz, while Ben Berard, Cooper Walker, and Chase Stillman rounded out the offense.

On defense, Jimmy Schuldt and Tom Willander opened the night, while the lone returning blueliner Kirill Kudryavtsev paired with Nikolai Knyzhov. Joe Arntsen and Sawyer Mynio completed the defensive group. In goal, Nikita Tolopilo got the first start of the season, facing Carl Lindbom for Henderson.

The teams spent the opening 20 minutes feeling each other out, with neither side able to break the deadlock. Tolopilo was sharp early, coming up with several key saves to keep the game scoreless after one.

Midway through the second period, Abbotsford’s fourth line opened the scoring. Cooper Walker carried the puck into the zone and fed Ben Berard, who buried his shot to net the Canucks’ first goal of the season and give them a 1–0 lead. Both teams saw time on special teams and even some 4-on-4 play, but the goaltenders stood tall as Abbotsford carried the one-goal advantage into the third.

Chances came at both ends in the final frame, but it remained a goaltender’s duel. With just under three minutes to play, Henderson pulled their netminder for the extra attacker — and it paid off. Tanner Laczynski found the back of the net to tie the game at 1–1 and force overtime.

It didn’t take long for the Canucks to finish the job. Just 53 seconds into extra time, Max Sasson called game, burying a feed from Danila Klimovich to secure Abbotsford’s first win of the season.

The Canucks will look to make it two in a row when they face the Silver Knights again tomorrow night in the back half of their weekend series.

The Abbotsford Canucks announced today the club’s 2025.26 AHL Opening Night Roster, ahead of tonight’s season opener at Henderson. The 27-man roster includes sixteen (16) forwards, seven defencemen and four goaltenders.

Sixteen (16) players are returning to the Abbotsford Canucks, having played at least one game during the 2023.24 and/or 2024.25 seasons. Danila Klimovich and team captain Chase Wouters represent the two players competing with the club for a fifth consecutive season, having joined the team during Abbotsford’s 2021.22 inaugural campaign. The roster also includes eleven (11) members of the Canucks’ 2025 Calder Cup 
Championship team; Joe Arntsen, Dino Kambeitz, Danila Klimovich, Kirill Kudryavtsev, Ty Mueller, Sawyer Mynio, Jiří Patera, Max Sasson, Nikita Tolopilo, Cooper Walker and Chase Wouters.

Forwards Vilmer Alriksson, Josh Bloom, Jackson Kunz and Anri Ravinskis, defencemen Joe Arntsen, Sawyer Mynio and Tom Willander, and goaltenders Aku Koskenvuo and Ty Young represent the nine rookies to have made the team out of training camp.

The opening night roster includes 10 former Vancouver Canucks draft picks, including forward Joseph LaBate, who rejoined the organization when he signed a one-year, two-way NHL contract on July 1. Of the 27 players who make up the team’s roster, seven originally joined the organization via NHL free agency, seven joined the organization via AHL free agency, and three were acquired by Vancouver via trade.

The roster features at least one player of eight different nationalities; Canada (9), United States (7), Russia (3), Sweden (3), Belarus (2), Czechia (1), Finland (1) and Latvia (1), including two players native to British Columbia (Berard and Mynio).

Abbotsford, BC - The 2024.25 season was an outstanding one for the Abbotsford Canucks, both on and off the ice, highlighted by the franchise’s first-ever Calder Cup Championship and record-setting fundraising efforts. Throughout the season, our fans were instrumental in raising vital funds for local charities across the Fraser Valley, reaching a total of $2,360,059.  

“The support from our fans has been truly remarkable,” said Jim Kozak, COO & Alternate Governor, Abbotsford Canucks. "Their generosity and passion not only helped us achieve success on the ice but also created real change in our community. We’re proud to continue this tradition of giving back to the organizations that make the Fraser Valley such a special place.”  

Throughout the 2024.25 season, the Abbotsford Canucks were proud to host memorable Community & Fan Engagement nights that celebrated local groups and championed important causes. Fans helped raise vital funds for the Abbotsford Police Foundation and Abbotsford Fire Fighters Charitable Society during ‘Battle of the Badges,’ supported the BC Cancer Foundation through ‘Hockey Fights Cancer,’ and contributed to the Movember Foundation at ‘Movember Night’! During the holidays, fans also donated over 2,000 stuffed animals during the annual Teddy Bear Toss, bringing comfort to children and families in need. These efforts displayed the strength of our community and the impact we can create together.  

Giving back extended far beyond these special nights. Just as our fans gave so generously, the team continued to find meaningful ways to make a difference in the community year-round. Players came together and sponsored local families in need during the holidays to help make their celebrations a little brighter. Beyond the holidays and throughout the season, the team shared Canucks spirit across the region by visiting schools, supporting local charities, and taking part in numerous community events.  

The difference we made in the community this season wouldn’t have been possible without you, our incredible fans! Your support fueled a record year of giving, helping those in need, and raising vital funds for worthy causes. From exciting 50/50 raffles to in-game fundraisers, fans gave wholeheartedly to make a lasting impact on the community.  

As we look ahead to the 2025.26 season, we’re not slowing down. Let’s continue building on this momentum and make this year one to remember. THANK YOU, FANS! ABBOTSFORD CANUCKS RAISE OVER $2.3 MILLION FOR CHARITIES IN 2024.25 

The Abbotsford Canucks returned to Place Bell for a quick turnaround matchup against the Laval Rocket, looking to get back into the win column.

Nikita Tolopilo got the start in goal for Abbotsford, facing off against a familiar netminder in Kaapo Kähkönen. With an identical defensive core and only a few tweaks up front, the Canucks were set and ready to go.

Tensions carried over from last night’s contest, as Chase Stillman dropped the gloves with Florian Xhekaj just 55 seconds in. Moments later, the Rocket capitalized when Laurent Dauphin buried a rebound less than three minutes into the game. Abbotsford pushed back with several quality chances and odd-man rushes but couldn’t find the equalizer. Late in the period, Jared Davidson doubled Laval’s lead with a top-shelf finish, giving the Rocket a 2-0 edge after 20 minutes.

The second period belonged to Abbotsford. Just three minutes in, the Canucks struck twice to even things up. On an early power play, Vitali Kravtsov ripped a shot to the back of the net to get Abbotsford on the board. Then, just 90 seconds later, Tom Willander capitalized on the same man advantage, firing a shot from the slot past Kähkönen for his first professional AHL goal to tie the game 2-2. Both sides traded chances for the rest of the frame, but neither team broke through before the intermission.

Laval’s penalty troubles continued into the third, but they managed to kill off an early Abbotsford power play and quickly flipped the momentum. Around the seven-minute mark, Lucas Condotta restored Laval’s lead with a shot that found its way through traffic. In the closing minutes, with Abbotsford pressing and pulling their goalie during a 4-on-4 situation, the Rocket sealed the win with back-to-back empty net goals from Florian Xhekaj and Alex Belzile.

The Canucks fell 5-2 to Laval, dropping both games this weekend. They’ll now return home to the Abbotsford Centre for their long-awaited home opener and a six-game stretch on home ice.

Abbotsford drops game two in Laval 5-2

The defending Calder Cup champions made their annual trip out east to face last season’s first-place team, the Laval Rocket.

The Canucks started their third goaltender in as many games, with Ty Young getting the nod between the pipes against Jacob Fowler for Laval. Other notable lineup changes included Captain Chase Wouters making his season debut after missing the opening series in Henderson, and Anri Ravinskis drawing in for his professional AHL debut.

Abbotsford opened the game with a strong defensive effort, while Laval controlled much of the puck possession and shot totals. The Canucks’ best chance of the period came from Vitali Kravtsov, but Fowler made a sharp glove save to keep things scoreless. With just under two minutes remaining, a second untimely penalty proved costly for Abbotsford, as Jared Davidson’s shot from the right circle found the back of the net. The Canucks trailed 1–0 heading into the second period but began the middle frame on the power play.

The second period brought plenty of action, featuring a fight and a combined 10 penalties, though neither side was able to convert. Abbotsford generated a few more quality chances but continued to trail 1–0 after 40 minutes.

Laval extended their lead early in the third when Filip Mesar scored just 1:49 into the period. A little over two minutes later, Xavier Simoneau jammed the puck under Young’s pad to make it 3–0 Rocket. Despite a late push, the Canucks couldn’t break through offensively, falling for the first time this season.

The two teams meet again tomorrow afternoon, with puck drop set for 12 PM PT. Abbotsford will then return home for their banner unveiling during the Home Opener on October 24th.
