Abbotsford, B.C. (March 26, 2025): Abbotsford Canucks players decorated cookies with children and families in care at Canuck Place Children’s Hospice – Dave Lede House.  

The Abbotsford Canucks supported Milk & Cookies for Canuck Place, presented by BC Dairy, an annual fundraiser that includes selling Milk & Cookie Combos at Abbotsford Canucks home games. Funds raised support care provided by Canuck Place for over 920 children with life-threatening illnesses and families in BC and the Yukon.  

“We are so grateful to the Abbotsford Canucks players for bringing joy and comfort to the children and families at Canuck Place,” said Canuck Place CEO, Denise Praill. “The kitchen is the heart of our hospices. The cookie jar at Canuck Place is always full for children and families facing challenging uncertainty. We are so grateful to our partners at BC Dairy for supporting our Milk & Cookies campaign and ultimately pediatric palliative care across the province.  

Abbotsford Canucks players Chase Wouters, Nikita Tolopilo, and Cole McWard visited Canuck Place’s Abbotsford hospice and decorated cookies with children and families.   

"It was a great experience decorating cookies at Canuck Place with the kids, families, and my teammates,” said Abbotsford Canucks Captain, Chase Wouters. “You can really see how much moments like this mean to the patients, their parents, and even the siblings. These families are facing a lot of uncertainty and being able to support them during these challenging times is truly rewarding."

The funds raised for Milk & Cookies for Canuck Place will support the growing need for essential pediatric palliative care provided at Canuck Place. On average a child is on program for six years and their family remains in bereavement care for three years. Last year alone, Canuck Place had a 23% increase in family members receiving overnight care in hospices, and a 61% increase in children and families on program over the last decade. Through the generosity of the community, Canuck Place can continue to provide quality, interdisciplinary care to children with life-threatening illnesses and the families who love them. Until March 31, BC Dairy will match every dollar up to $30,000 for the Canuck Place Milk & Cookies campaign.

Canuck Place Children’s Hospice is BC and the Yukon’s pediatric palliative care provider. ABBOTSFORD CANUCKS AND BC DAIRY SUPPORT CARE AT CANUCK PLACE CHILDREN’S HOSPICE

Abbotsford Canucks General Manager, Ryan Johnson, announced today that the club has signed forward Jackson Kunz to a one-year AHL contract through the 2025-26 season. Kunz, 22, will also join Abbotsford for the remainder of the 2024-25 AHL season, competing on a professional try-out agreement.

The 6-3, 227-pound centre was selected by the Vancouver Canucks in the fourth round (113th overall) of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, and recently completed his senior and final NCAA campaign with the University of North Dakota (NCHC).

A native of Grand Forks, ND, Kunz has spent the entirety of his collegiate career with his hometown school of North Dakota. He now completes his NCAA career having registered 45 points (24 goals, 21 assists) and 66 penalty minutes over 128 games played, and helped the program capture an NCHC regular season championship in 2023-24.

Before joining the Fighting Hawks, Kunz skated in 57 USHL regular season games with the Green Bay Gamblers, and attended Shattuck St. Mary’s prep school, competing for its U18 team from 2018-2020.

Abbotsford Canucks sign Jackson Kunz to a one year AHL Contract

The Abbotsford Canucks looked to secure the season series as they faced the Manitoba Moose for the final time this season.

Ty Young got the start in net for Abbotsford, going up against Domenic DiVincentis at the other end.

The Canucks wasted no time getting on the board. After a clean zone entry, Jett Woo fired a shot from the blue line, sending the puck deep into the offensive zone. Aatu Räty then fed a perfect pass in front to Sammy Blais, who roofed it into the back of the net, giving Abbotsford an early 1-0 lead. However, the advantage was short-lived—just a minute and a half later, Ben King capitalized on a rebound after Axel Jonsson-Fjällby’s initial shot rang off the post, tucking it home to even the score.

The pace slowed for a stretch, with Ty Young making some key saves to keep Abbotsford in it. But around the 12-minute mark, the Canucks found themselves shorthanded. The Moose made them pay, as Elias Salomonsson ripped a shot from the slot to put Manitoba ahead for the first time. As the period wound down, Cole McWard changed the game’s momentum, firing a shot from the slot that found the back of the net, tying things up at 2-2 just before intermission.

The second period saw a shift in momentum, but neither team could find the back of the net. Both had power play opportunities, but DiVincentis and Young stood tall, keeping the game locked at 2-2 heading into the final frame.

The pace picked up quickly in the third. Just 47 seconds in, Sammy Blais jumped off the bench, intercepted a turnover, and broke in alone, finishing his chance to put Abbotsford ahead. The action didn’t stop there—less than 45 seconds later, Chase Wouters sent a cross-ice feed to Guillaume Brisebois, who came streaking down the right side and fired a blocker-side shot to extend the Canucks' lead to 4-2.

But Manitoba didn't give up. Just over two minutes later, Simon Lundmark responded, beating Young to bring the Moose back within one. Then, an untimely Abbotsford penalty gave the Moose another chance, and they made it count—Mason Shaw ripped a seeing-eye shot from the blue line, finding the back of the net to tie the game at 4-4. In a span of less than five minutes, four goals had been exchanged, but defense tightened up for the remainder of regulation, sending the game to overtime.

Overtime was short-lived. Just 30 seconds in, Max Sasson turned on the jets, went end to end, and tucked the puck past DiVincentis to seal Abbotsford’s seventh straight win. The Canucks clinched the season series with a thrilling 5-4 victory over Manitoba.

Abbotsford will now return home for a few practice days before heading back out on the road to visit the San Jose Barracuda.

The Abbotsford Canucks made a quick stop in Bakersfield to take on the Condors, chasing their 10th straight win.

Artūrs Šilovs returned to the team following a stint in Vancouver and got the start in net against Brett Brochu at the other end.

The Canucks entered the game in a playoff-clinching situation, with a win bringing them one step closer to the post season. However, just 15 seconds after the puck dropped, the Condors gained possession and broke through the Canucks' defense. Seth Griffith walked in on Šilovs and put Bakersfield on the board early with a 1-0 lead.

Abbotsford responded with pressure, registering nine shots before the Condors could record another. Despite earning two power play opportunities, they were unable to find the back of the net before the first period ended, trailing 1-0 into the second.

With the pressure mounting, Abbotsford needed to turn the game around. The Condors received their first power play of the night, but the Canucks successfully killed the penalty and resumed even-strength play. Both goaltenders, Brochu and Šilovs, made key saves to keep their teams in the game. The Canucks held the Condors to just three shots on net in the second period, but neither team found the scoreboard, leaving Bakersfield with a 1-0 lead heading into the third.

Determined to get on the board, Abbotsford ramped up the intensity. Former Canuck Alex Kannok Leipert dropped the gloves with Chase Wouters, his former captain, in an attempt to energize the game. The move seemed to work for the Canucks, who soon found themselves on the power play. Just 30 seconds into the man advantage, Tristen Nielsen delivered the spark they needed. Navigating through traffic, he backhanded the puck into the net to tie the game at 1-1.

With momentum on their side, Abbotsford pushed forward. Another power play opportunity followed, but they couldn’t convert. However, with less than four minutes remaining, Arshdeep Bains set up Phil Di Giuseppe, who fired a wrist shot past Brochu to give the Canucks their first lead of the game. Up 2-1, the Canucks focused on closing out the game, holding the Condors to just three shots in the period. As time wound down, Bakersfield pulled their netminder for an extra attacker, but Abbotsford held strong until the final buzzer.

With a 2-1 victory, the Canucks secured their 10th consecutive win, setting a new franchise record and tying the league’s longest active win streak.

The team now heads to San Diego, looking to punch their ticket to the playoffs before returning home for their final four home games of the season.

The Abbotsford Canucks sought their ninth straight win as they continued their playoff push in a rematch against the San Jose Barracuda, their final meeting of the season.

Ty Young got the start in net for Abbotsford, facing off against Gabriel Carriere. With tensions carrying over from the previous night, the game promised to be a physical battle. Just 11 seconds in, Jett Woo and Brendan Haché dropped the gloves, setting the tone for the evening. Once play resumed, it didn’t take long for the Canucks to strike. Just 31 seconds into the game, Nate Smith charged the net, and after Carriere made the initial stop, Sammy Blais buried the rebound to put Abbotsford on the board early.

Minutes later, Ty Glover took a penalty, leaving the Canucks shorthanded. No problem for them—Chase Wouters intercepted a pass in the neutral zone, broke away alone, and sent a backhander into the net for a 2-0 lead less than six minutes in. The Canucks kept pressing, and after a few key saves by Young, they extended their lead. Nate Smith capitalized on a rebound near the corner of the net, stuffing it home to make it 3-0. Abbotsford wasn’t done there—Jujhar Khaira deflected a shot from Smith to give the Canucks a commanding 4-0 lead heading into the second period.

As in the previous game, Aaron Dell took over in net for San Jose for the remainder of the contest. Early in the second, San Jose earned a power play, but this time, the Barracuda took advantage. Just six seconds into the penalty kill, Pavol Regenda got San Jose on the board. The Canucks faced adversity, spending extended time in the penalty box, including a late 5-on-3 kill to close out the period. Despite the pressure, they held strong, maintaining a 4-1 lead into the final frame.

With 20 minutes standing between them and their ninth win, Abbotsford successfully killed off the remainder of their penalty before earning back-to-back power-play chances. Nate Smith made the most of it, scoring his second of the night with a five-hole shot on Dell. Despite two more power-play opportunities, Smith’s goal stood as the only marker of the period, as both goaltenders made key stops down the stretch.

The Abbotsford Canucks completed the sweep of San Jose with another dominant 5-1 victory, securing their ninth straight win and tying the franchise record for the longest winning streak. Nate Smith recorded a career-high four-point night, tallying two goals and two assists to fuel Abbotsford’s offensive success. The team now heads to Bakersfield and San Diego for mid-week matchups before returning home for their final four home games of the season.

The Abbotsford Canucks looked to keep their winning streak alive, aiming for their eighth straight victory as they faced off against the San Jose Barracuda in their final two matchups of the season.

Nikita Tolopilo returned to the crease, getting the start against Gabriel Carriere for San Jose. With playoff positioning on the line, this game held significant weight in the division standings. Despite missing key players due to call-ups to the Vancouver Canucks, Abbotsford stepped up to the challenge.

Just over two minutes into the game, Cooper Walker capitalized on a misplay, finding the net while Carriere was out of position, giving the Canucks an early 1-0 lead. Moments later, Danila Klimovich spotted Ty Mueller and Phil Di Giuseppe on the rush. Di Giuseppe received the pass, stickhandled through traffic, and tucked in Abbotsford’s second goal—doubling the lead before the Barracuda registered a single shot.

Midway through the period, the Canucks struck again. Arshdeep Bains controlled the puck behind the net and fed his captain, Chase Wouters, who made no mistake, burying Abbotsford’s third goal just 11 minutes in. San Jose pushed to get on the board, but a late-period penalty put the Canucks on the power play. While they didn’t convert, they carried a commanding 3-0 lead into the first intermission.

The Barracuda made a goaltending change, bringing in Aaron Dell for the remainder of the game. San Jose came out with renewed energy, determined to shift the momentum. Dell made some key saves to keep his team in it, but Abbotsford eventually cracked the code. Just under six minutes into the second period, Jujhar Khaira intercepted a pass in the neutral zone, walked in, and fired a shot past Dell to extend the lead to 4-0.

Tolopilo continued to stand tall in net, turning away San Jose’s chances, while Dell held his ground to prevent further damage in the second frame. Abbotsford remained in control, entering the third period with a comfortable four-goal cushion.

With just 20 minutes standing between them and their eighth consecutive win, the Canucks wasted no time sealing the deal. Less than three minutes in, Di Giuseppe struck again, firing a shot through traffic to notch his second goal of the night and Abbotsford’s fifth.

San Jose finally got on the board when Joey Keane’s wrist shot found its way past Tolopilo, breaking the shutout bid. The game grew more physical, with the Barracuda racking up 36 penalty minutes in frustration, but they couldn’t generate enough momentum for a comeback.

With a dominant 5-1 victory in San Jose, the Canucks secured their eighth straight win. The teams will meet again tomorrow for their final showdown of the season as Abbotsford continues its push for a playoff berth.
