The Abbotsford Canucks closed out their six-game homestand with Hockey Fights Cancer Night, taking on the Henderson Silver Knights.

Vilmer Alriksson and Jimmy Schuldt slotted back into the lineup after missing yesterday’s contest, while Ty Young got the start between the pipes, facing Jesper Vikman for Henderson.

The Silver Knights struck first once again when Ben Hemmerling capitalized on a breakaway eight minutes in, going top shelf to make it 1–0. The Canucks battled to even things up and got their chance late in the frame. On the power play, Joseph LaBate tipped in a shot from Ben Berard to tie the game at 1–1 heading into intermission.

Special teams were the story of the second period. About seven minutes in, the Canucks took their first lead when Schuldt, Berard, and LaBate recreated their earlier power play setup — and LaBate buried his second of the night to make it 2–1. But Henderson quickly answered on their own man advantage, as Raphael Lavoie converted to knot things back up at 2–2. The Knights continued to press, and with just three minutes left in the frame, Jackson Hallum slipped one past Young to give Henderson a 3–2 edge heading into the third.

The Silver Knights carried that momentum into the final frame. Mitch McLain extended their lead early by cleaning up a rebound in front, before Jeremy Davis backhanded another home midway through the period to make it 5–2. Tuomas Uronen added a sixth goal shortly after, and a late penalty against Abbotsford allowed Lukas Cormier to make it 7–2 on the power play. Ben Berard managed to get one back in the final seconds, but it wasn’t enough as the Canucks fell 7–3.

With this game, Abbotsford wraps up their six-game opening homestand and now hits the road to face the Colorado Eagles next weekend.

The Abbotsford Canucks kicked off their final series of a six-game homestand against the Henderson Silver Knights — a matchup that promised intensity after the two teams’ heated opening weekend series, which Abbotsford swept.

The lineup saw a few more tweaks as the team continued to search for the right combinations. Making his AHL debut tonight was Robby Drazner, while Jiří Patera got the start in net against Cameron Whitehead for Henderson.

The Canucks came out flying, generating a prime scoring chance just 32 seconds in when Josh Bloom broke free on a breakaway, only to be stopped by Whitehead. Despite a pair of early power plays, Abbotsford couldn’t convert. Patera stood tall at the other end, turning aside several key chances to keep things scoreless until late in the first.

With a four-minute high-sticking penalty called against Joseph LaBate, Henderson finally broke through. Tanner Laczynski found the back of the net with just one second remaining in the first half of the double minor, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead. Still on the man advantage, Braeden Bowman doubled the lead seconds later to make it 2-0 after one.

The Silver Knights carried that momentum into the second. Around the seven-minute mark, Tuomas Uronen buried a cross-ice feed from Matyas Sapovaliv to make it 3-0. Five minutes later, another costly penalty led to Henderson’s fifth goal of the night — a power-play marker from Kai Uchacz that stretched the lead to 5-0.

Abbotsford finally got on the board late in the frame when Ty Mueller tipped in a Sawyer Mynio shot on the power play, breaking Whitehead’s shutout bid. But Henderson quickly answered, with Uronen notching his second of the game to restore the five-goal cushion.

The Canucks couldn’t claw their way back, ultimately falling 6-1. A tough night on the penalty kill proved costly, but Abbotsford will look to bounce back in tomorrow night’s rematch to close out the homestand.

Abbotsford Falls 6-1 to the Silver Knights on Diwali Night

Abbotsford Canucks General Manager, Ryan Johnson, announced today that the club has signed defenceman Jake Murray to a professional try-out agreement.

Murray, 23, started the 2025-26 campaign with the ECHL’s Greenville Swamp Rabbits, skating in nine games and recording four assists. The 6’3, 198-pound defender is in his third professional campaign, having skated in 19 AHL games with Texas in 2023-24, along with 109 games of ECHL experience between Cincinnati, Idaho, Bloomington and Greenville. He spent the entirety of the 2024-25 season with Bloomington (ECHL) where he led team defencemen in points (34) and assists (29) while being the Bison’s only player to skate in all 72 regular season games.

The Oakville, Ontario native played 257 OHL games between Kingston and Guelph, recording 100 points (14 goals, 86 assists) before turning professional in 2023. Murray played alongside current Abbotsford Canucks teammate Cooper Walker during the 2022-23 major junior season with the Guelph Storm.

In a corresponding move, Johnson also announced that the Abbotsford Canucks have returned defencemen Jayden Lee on loan to Kalamazoo (ECHL).

ABBOTSFORD CANUCKS SIGN MURRAY TO PTO

The Abbotsford Canucks capped off their back-to-back in Colorado tonight, taking on the Eagles once again.

The lineup continued to see some shuffling as the Canucks worked to find what clicks best. Between the pipes, Jonathan Lemieux made his AHL debut, taking on Isak Posch for Colorado. Nick Poisson also made his AHL debut, slotted alongside Chase Wouters and Danila Klimovich.

Abbotsford came out strong, generating multiple quality chances early — a change of pace from recent starts. Just before the midway mark of the opening frame, Josh Bloom turned on the jets, breaking in alone and slipping the puck through Posch’s pads to give Abbotsford a 1–0 lead. The Canucks held the Eagles to just six shots in the period, maintaining their advantage heading into the second.

Early in the middle frame, Abbotsford killed off a penalty before getting back to their offensive rhythm. Despite Colorado’s push, it was the debuting Nick Poisson who made his mark, ripping home a shot from the right circle to double the lead to 2–0.

The Canucks gained more momentum heading onto their second power play of the night — but in a sudden swing, Tristen Nielsen broke loose on a shorthanded breakaway and tucked one past Lemieux with just two seconds remaining in the period. Only 42 seconds later, Nielsen struck again, tying the game at 2–2 heading into the third.

Both sides traded strong looks in the final frame, with both goaltenders standing tall. Looking to spark some energy, Vilmer Alriksson and Alex Gagne dropped the gloves midway through the period. Less than a minute later, Abbotsford went back to the man advantage, but Posch held firm to keep things even. The Canucks kept pressing but couldn’t find the go-ahead goal, sending the game to overtime.

In the extra frame, Abbotsford was forced to kill off a penalty and managed to hold off the Eagles’ power play to force a shootout.

Nils Åman buried one in the opening round, but Colorado answered and ultimately snuck away with the win.

The Canucks fell 3–2 in a shootout, but picked up a hard-earned point before heading home for a midweek matchup.

Abbotsford picks up a point in a 3-2 shootout loss against the Eagles

The Abbotsford Canucks went back on the road for a quick trip to Colorado, taking on the Eagles and former Canuck Tristen Nielsen.

With Jiří Patera recalled earlier in the day, Ty Young got the nod in net for Abbotsford, facing off against Trent Miner. Kirill Kudryavtsev also rejoined the lineup, pairing with Nikolai Knyzhov on the blue line.

The rivalry between these two teams was evident from the opening puck drop, with both sides trading chances and playing with noticeable edge. The first period saw momentum swing back and forth, especially late when a brief Abbotsford power play turned into 4-on-4 play, and then a 5-on-3 advantage for Colorado. Despite the flurry of penalties, neither team could capitalize, sending the game scoreless into the second.

Abbotsford opened the middle frame on the penalty kill and managed to weather the early pressure. But midway through the period, Joseph LaBate was whistled for a penalty, and the Eagles finally broke through. As their power play wound down, Danil Gushchin fired a shot from the right circle that beat Young to make it 1–0. Colorado continued to control play, and it paid off again when Tye Felhaber buried a cross-ice feed from Ronnie Attard to extend the lead to 2–0.

CJ Kier took over in goal for Abbotsford to start the third. Six minutes in, Tristen Nielsen capitalized on a breakaway to make it 3–0 for the Eagles. The Canucks showed some pushback midway through the period when Vilmer Alriksson jammed one past Miner to spoil the shutout bid. But with under two minutes remaining, Alex Gagne sealed the deal with an empty-netter, giving Colorado a 4–1 win.

The two teams will meet again tomorrow night before Abbotsford returns home for a midweek matchup against the San Jose Barracuda.
